Welcome to Military Justice Matters
What should you do when a military investigator tells you that you’re suspected of misconduct?
What are the consequences of accepting NJP?
What happens at an ADSEP board?
How does the court-martial process unfold?
And—most importantly—what are your rights in all of this?
If you or someone you love serves in the military, these are questions you may never expect to face—but if you do, they can suddenly become the most important questions in your life.
Welcome to Military Justice Matters. I’m Justin Bennett. I’ve just transitioned off Active Duty after 12 years as a Navy JAG. During that time, I had the privilege to serve as both a prosecutor and Defense Counsel, both overseas and stateside. Most recently, I served as a Military Justice Instructor at the Naval Justice School, training Judge Advocates across all three Sea Services. I have also served with the Department of Justice as a Special Assistant United States Attorney and as a Temporary Immigration Judge. Based on my experience, I was designated a “Specialist” in the Navy’s Litigation Career Track. And now, I am grateful to be starting a new chapter in my career as a partner with Parlatore Law Group, where I can continue to serve those who have volunteered to serve our country.
The content on this channel will be for both servicemembers and their families. Whether you are an E-2 fresh out of boot camp or an O-6 nearing retirement, if you ever find yourself being advised of your rights under Article 31-bravo, or looking at an administrative separation notification as the Service tries to kick you out—-those are terrifying situations to be in. You need to know in that moment what that all means, what to expect, and, critically, what your rights are throughout the process. I want to equip you with that knowledge now, to help you avoid any missteps in such situations that could cost you your career and your family’s benefits.
So thank you for joining me here at Military Justice Matters. Whatever stage you find yourself at in this process, I look forward to helping you navigate your way through these unfamiliar waters. And if you or your loved one are already caught up in a disciplinary process and would like to speak to an attorney, my firm’s contact information is on the screen now. Thank you.
